| It's finals week. Joy of my life. Made it through the rest of the quarter. It's almost summertime. That means I need to find a job.
Friday night I went to the movies with my dad. Yeah, I know some of you are laughing at that - honestly, who goes to the movies with their parents, especially at the age of twenty? Well apparently, I do. I will be quite honest with you (whoever you are - you may be no one, because I'm not quite sure if anyone even reads this anymore) and more importantly myself - my father has been spending a lot of time with his girlfriend, and quite honestly, I'm jealous. I'll be the first one to tell you that I'm a daddy's girl, and I guess that I'm jealous of the time that they spend together, especially since I hadn't seen much of him lately. And the fact that the only time I saw him for a span of two weeks or so, she was around too, and that pissed me off something fierce. After all, I'm his flesh and blood, and I've been in his life for the last twenty years, and I'll be in it a lot longer than she ever will. Don't get me wrong, I like her and all. And I'm really happy that they have connected. They have a lot in common, and she seems to make him really happy. And since my dad is one of my best friends (go ahead, laugh at me), I want nothing more than his happiness. But I don't think that it's asking too much to still have father-daughter time. Do you?
So anyway, back to my story; dad and I went to the movies on Friday night, and we saw The Break-Up. It wasn't bad. It was cute, funny, and sad. I love both Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston. And come on - Tom Brady was in the movie, too. Even if he did play for the U of M, he's a hell of a player, and not to mention gorgeous. But the movie didn't exactly have the ending that the audience was looking for (you could hear them murmuring and wondering what the hell just happened). Which got me to thinking about how much people want their happy, Hollywood endings. The popular culture is drawn to it, and the mass media has given it to them/us for so long, that when they/we don't get it, they're/we're upset about it. Well, life isn't perfect - we won't all have happy endings. Don't get me wrong, I like movies, and I of course love movies that have a happy ending from time to time, but I am also drawn to the movies that give you an ending that you weren't exactly expecting. What good is it watching a movie or reading a book or going to see a play when you know exactly what is going to happen? If you can predict what is going to happen in the end, then you're wasting your money, and you're not growing emotionally or intellectually or in any other way if you're just being fed the same old thing that you've seen a billion times before.
So there is my rant. On to other things, I have a B in biology. And that's with getting D's on the two exams we've had thus far. Friggin' sweet. I have my bio final on tuesday morning. Then I have math wednesday morning and then english. Then I have to bust my butt home so I can get everything ready to go to Canada!! I'm so excited, you have no idea!
Edmonton/Canes in the Stanley Cup playoffs. GO OILERS!!! (Although I have to say that I will be cheering for Ray Whitney and Kevyn Adams for the Hurricanes, seeing as they are former Jackets and all).
Sports Night is/was a really fucking awesome show. If you've never seen it, you should really look for it. I don't know if they still show reruns of it on TV though. But I have the whole series on DVD. It is so good cause it's funny, but kind of emotional/has good substance to it. It was written or created by the same person who did The West Wing. Unfortunately, Sports Night had the same problem that Family Guy had during its original run; people liked it and it was a good show, but it was put up against other tough prime-time contenders, and they always changed around its time slot/day, so people never really knew when it was on, so they couldn't watch it. Kinda sucks. But yeah, if you have the oppertunity to watch it, I would highly reccommend it.
Wow, that's a damn long entry.
